            The Drake magazine media experience

As a student in the magazine media program you’ll learn to write effective articles that inform and inspire, to act ethically, to identify the needs of an audience, and to deliver reliable information in the format that best serves those needs. In addition to becoming a better writer, you’ll also learn to communicate using video, audio, photography, social media, and mobile apps. These skills combined with practical experiences will allow you to work as a writer, editor or designer for a magazine, in print or on the web. You can be in publication management or marketing; social media strategy or mobile application development; in communications for a corporation, educational institution, or nonprofit.

Bulldogs are regularly recognized for excellence with honors including the Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker award, Society of Professional Journalists regional and national Mark of Excellence awards, national photography awards, Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication awards including general excellence and best online magazine, and others.

Of course, you’ll benefit from the experiences that all Drake Bulldogs enjoy—mentorship from professors at the top of their field; résumé-worthy internships, research experiences, and other professional preparation; opportunities to learn while serving the community; and January Term experiences that immerse you into the fascinating topics—and locations—you choose.
